Software Installs

• Demos or software using Java 2 may require patches for Solaris. Click here for patch information.

• If an install fails when executed from the browser, or you would rather do the installs yourself, you will have to access the respective packages on the Sun Solutions CD. The software packages are located in the "_install" directory of the respective software package you wish to install. The featured software titles are located in the "products/Software/" directory of your CDRom. Copy the appropriate packages to your hard drive, and execute the necessary installation scripts, and/or follow instructions provided by the vendor.
  
  
• If an executable produces a "Can't Run 16-bit application..." on Windows NT, you may need the latest Service Pack.

Slide Shows, Presentations

• If any multimedia presentations fail when executed from the browser you can access the respective packages on the Sun Solutions CD. The files are located in the "_install" directory of the respective presentation you wish to run/view. The featured titles are located in the "products/Software/" directory of your CDRom. Copy the appropriate packages to your hard drive or change to the respective directory on the disc, and use the appropriate external application to view the file.
  
  
• If a multimedia presentation produces an error requiring a .dll file, you may need the application in which the presentation was created to view.
• If a presentation produces a "Can't Run 16-bit application..." on Windows NT, you may need the latest Service Pack.

  Known Limitations

  • If you access the World Wide Web through a firewall, you will need to set up your proxy information in order to successfully view pages and download software on the Internet.

    If you do not know your proxy information, contact your System Administrator for help.

    Because external sites on the World Wide Web are maintained by their respective owners, we cannot guarantee that an external link will work properly.

  • Search Results links don't work properly on Windows systems running Netscape 6.x or higher, or Mozilla.  Hint: The links will work if you copy the link and paste it into you Browser's location bar, and hit Enter.
  • Some Shockwave Flash presentations on this CD will not run on Solaris OS, due to the version of Flash Player for Solaris, not supporting newer Flash version features. If you are not sure you have Flash Player installed, Click Here

Technical Notes

• If the CD Does Not Launch
  On some windows systems, you may notice the CD will not launch after trying one of the methods above. If this happens, make sure you have a clean system and are not running any conflicting services in the background. You can still browse the contents of the CD by opening the D:\products\index.html page directly from your browser. You will be unable to use the automatic installation feature in this case.

• Manual Software Installation
  In the case where an automatic software installation does not work correctly or you are unable to use the automatic software installation features as described above, you can still perform manual installations of the software. In the D:\products\Software directory is a list of all the ISV participants on the CD. Each one of these has an _install directory where the product demonstration or trial software resides. Simply launch the software through your windows explorer.

• If the server is having trouble making a "socket connection" upon launch, we recommend troubleshooting in the following order:
  • Be sure you have no other instance of the Sun Solutions CD running
  • Be sure you have no other instance of a browser running
  • Be sure you have TCP/IP installed properly on the machine

• If Search Results links don't launch properly on Netscape 6:
  • Copy link URL to the location bar in your Browser and press the `Enter/Return' key.

• Communicator 4.0x does not render fonts properly on my platform. To fix the problem, adjust your fonts under the Edit --> Preferences Menu. You can try accepting the default fonts or try changing font types until you can see the fonts in question.
  
  NOTE: Some links on this CD cause the browser to crash using Netscape Communicator 4.75 on Solaris. You can try using another version of Netscape or use Internet Explorer.

• To access the external links on this CD, your system must have access to the Internet either directly or through a Proxy.

• If you access the World Wide Web through a firewall, you will need to set up your proxy information in order to successfully view pages and download software on the Internet. If you choose to save the configuration and you have a HOME directory set, you should not need to set the properties for subsequent sessions.

  If you do not know your proxy information, contact your System Administrator for help.

• Because external sites on the World Wide Web are maintained by their respective owners, we cannot guarantee that an external link will work properly.

  If you set the proxy server because an external link failed, click on that link again once you complete the procedure above.

  Important: If you get an error launching Software Installations, set your proxy server to NOT use proxy for server addresses beginning with `localhost'.
  
  Using Netscape Navigator 4.x or higher:  View Demonstration
  

  1. Choose `Preferences' from Edit menu
  2. Click on arrow next to the Advanced tab located in the table on left side
  3. Choose `Proxies' from the drop down listing
  4. Click on `View' button to the right of Manual Configuration
  5. Type the following text into the text field to the right of "No Proxy for": localhost
  
  
  Using Internet Explorer 5.x or higher  View Demonstration
  
  
  1. Choose `Internet Options' from the Tools menu
  2. Click on the Connections tab
  3. Click on the LAN Settings buttons at the bottom of the page
  4. Click to place a check in the "Bypass proxy server for local addresses" check box

• This disc requires at least 10MB of swap space.

• A color flash might occur during some demos on color monitors if the cursor is moved out of the demo window. To correct this, move the cursor back into the demo window. Color will be restored when you quit the demo.

• You need at least 10 Mbytes of available swap space to run some of the demos.

• You can run the Sun Solutions CD from a remote CD-ROM drive. Ask your system administrator for access.
